A wonderful place. A place of many memories. You can actually see downtown Franklin; Standing Indian Mountain, Siler and Wayah Balds from this amazing fire tower.
I was thinking of going here for the 2017 August Eclipse, but don't think I will. There's just not enough open area for good viewing the eclipse! Unfortunately, the main reason for this is that the tower takes up nearly 1/3 of the available sky from the ground. I imagine they will open the tower up to some special guests the day of the eclipse, but not us mere mortals. If 10 or 20 people come up here for the eclipse, it should be fine. However, I suspect there will be many more. I would almost rather view from an open field...

Incredible 270 degree view from 5300 ft! Fire tower pretty hairy during high winds..not for faint of heart!
